Platform engineering is a technique/philosophy where we have a team whose sole purpose is to improve developer experience(DevEx, or DX) utilizing devops principles. The platforms team empowers companies to shift left so whether it be code quality, security, observability, platforms team provides an opinionated approach that reduces cognitive load for developers resulting in faster, safer and happier development teams

We went over in one of our previous blog about why platform engineering matters. In this blog we will go over how and if you are an executive - we want to pursuade why you need to be thinking about this, if you havent thought about it.

A common problem across multiple organizations is the technology sprawl and a lack of standardization. For e.g. you might have an SAP ERP system, a Salesforce CRM system and a web application in ASP.Net. As you can see, as an executive these are a lot of technologies and a lot of licenses that you will be running into. From a resourcing perspective there are a lot of technologies that you need to be looking for to keep your systems up and running

While this might have worked in the past, with the advent of technologies like kubernetes and techniques like platforms engineering, it makes it easier for teams to make strategic decisions to standardize technologies and use integration patterns so that the company can have a unified technology strategy.

What technologies an organization chooses can be up for debate but thinking about standardizing technologies and leveraging platforms engineering will help you gain that competitive edge.
